AirPro News recently covered Vigilant Aerospace Systems’ deployment of the FlightHorizon TEMPO airspace management system at the Oklahoma Air & Space Port in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. The article describes the installation as an important addition to the site’s safety and flight test infrastructure, supporting future operations involving uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft, and autonomous spacecraft. According to the publication, the deployment is part of Vigilant Aerospace’s work with the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) and includes three active long-range DeTect radars, with additional radar installations planned to expand surveillance coverage around the spaceport. AirPro News reports that this radar-supported system is intended to help enable safe Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flight by electronically detecting both cooperative and non-cooperative aircraft in the surrounding airspace.
The article says in part,
“We observe that Oklahoma is executing a highly effective strategic pivot. By leveraging legacy Cold War-era aviation infrastructure and combining it with modern, cloud-based detect-and-avoid technology, the state is positioning itself as a highly competitive alternative to traditional coastal spaceports.”
