Vigilant Aerospace Systems has released a new explainer video on FlightHorizon PILOT-M, highlighting how the onboard detect-and-avoid system helps large UAS and AAM aircraft identify and respond to nearby traffic in mixed airspace.

The video introduces how FlightHorizon PILOT-M combines onboard ADS-B In receivers, autopilot integration, GPS and telemetry inputs, and compact onboard radar to support both cooperative and non-cooperative detect-and-avoid in mixed airspace.

FlightHorizon PILOT-M is designed for aircraft that need a more complete onboard air picture than cooperative surveillance alone can provide. By adding onboard radar, the system can detect aircraft that are not electronically broadcasting usable position data while continuing to process cooperative traffic through ADS-B In. The result is a multi-sensor onboard system built for larger UAS and AAM aircraft that provides accurate traffic awareness and onboard conflict detection in complex flight environments.

The platform is intended to support routine beyond visual line of sight flight by integrating directly with the aircraft and providing standards-based detect-and-avoid functions onboard. For a closer look at the system’s capabilities, technical approach, and intended applications, visit the FlightHorizon PILOT-M product page.

About Vigilant Aerospace Systems

Vigilant Aerospace is the leading developer of multi-sensor detect-and-avoid and airspace management software for uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS or drones). The company’s product, FlightHorizon, is based on two NASA patents and uses data from multiple sources to display a real-time picture of the air traffic around a UAS and to provide automatic avoidance maneuvers to prevent collisions. The software is designed to meet industry technical standards, to provide automatic safety and to allow UAS to safely fly beyond the sight of the pilot. The software has won multiple industry awards and the company has had contracts and users at NASA, the FAA, the U.S. Department of Defense and with a variety of drone development programs.
