Unmanned Airspace covered Vigilant Aerospace Systems being awarded a year-long project to advance drone safety in collaboration with the Oklahoma Center for Advancement of Science and Technology this week. The effort targets onboard “detect-and-avoid” (DAA), which detects traffic and generates avoidance commands for separation. Flight testing will be carried out with engineering support from Oklahoma State University’s Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education.
The work continues development of FlightHorizon PILOT using multi-sensor inputs, including ADS-B In and small radars. It is intended to support beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations and emerging Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) use cases. The article also describes planned engineering development and flight tests to validate performance in operational conditions.
